An island of peace, greenery and nature
Cesenatico is renowned for the quality of its sea and beaches, (for some years now it has boasted the European Blue Flag), for the many opportunities it offers of practising sport, and for the peace and quiet that guests experience walking along its avenues. But another source of pride for all the people of Cesenatico are the large green areas which the town places at the disposal of everyone, above all the Levante and Ponente parks, ideal for anyone wanting to bask in the sun surrounded by greenery.
The parks have areas dedicated to playing, trim trails with equipment for keeping fit and bicycle tracks, soccer fields and lots of trees belonging to the Mediterranean maquis which keep you cool in the heat of the summer. The latest of Cesenatico’s showpieces are the new “Giardini al Mare” (Gardens by the Sea), which run parallel to the beach, all full of greenery and featuring water effects, children’s games and rest areas to enjoy the blue sky and colourful flower-beds. |

The Canal Harbour,
the heart of Cesenatico
IThe Leonardo project and the Seafaring Museum, located in the older part of town, testify to the importance of the Canal Harbour as a meeting place for all those who made Cesenatico what it is. Today, the oldest and most characteristic part of the canal hosts the floating Seafaring Museum. This section exhibits the prototypes of the boats of the upper and mid-Adriatic, with their traditional coloured “al terzo” sails, which took the place of the Latin sail and preceded the age of motorisation. The harbour was designed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502 and is home to a fleet of fishing boats. At Cesenatico, about 100 boats unload 1,800,000 kg of fish every year, including 6,000 of the Adriatic mackerel family. |
The harbour is dotted here and there with gourmet restaurants, and in fact the Western side could well be called the eating side while the Eastern side is the “lounge” area, with lots of space to sit and spend time talking to friends. This area, with its site amenities, is a favourite shopping haunt for visitors.According to one survey, the Canal Harbour of Cesenatico is one of the most photographed places in Italy. The town’s fishing traditions are also indicated by the nearby Piazzetta delle Conserve, renovated and restored in the Seventies. The Conserve are large cone-shaped storage tanks, where fish was once stored, until the 1930s, before the advent of refrigeration. |
